Why study abroad at ºÚÁÏÉç? 

Once the ancient capital of England and former seat of King Alfred the Great, ºÚÁÏÉç is the quintessential English city with a rich heritage and vibrant contemporary culture - truly an inspiring place to both live and study. Not far from the coast, with its small friendly community and excellent transport connections (one hour from London), it is not surprising that ºÚÁÏÉç is regularly voted one of the best places to live in England.

Our modern university campus is located just a short walk from the city centre and offers excellent facilities, including on campus accommodation.

ºÚÁÏÉç has welcomed Study Abroad students for more than 40 years and our Global Mobility team provides dedicated support at every stage of the journey. Study Abroad students are encouraged to tailor their academic experience by choosing modules from a range of high-quality programmes across the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Business and Sport. 

Study Abroad students have full access to our university support services as well as , which offers a variety of societies and sport teams. At ºÚÁÏÉç, we offer a supportive and engaging learning community, where students studying abroad can make connections and feel a sense of belonging.

Who Can Apply?

The University welcomes applications from all Study Abroad students from partner and non-partner universities who wish to spend one term (semester) or a full academic year at the University.

Eligibility Requirements 

• Registered on a programme of study at a university or higher education institution.
• Minimum GPA: 2.8 or equivalent.

Some students may require an English Language proficiency certificate. Students from partner universities will normally be nominated before applying.

Term 1 (Fall Semester) - 5 June 2026
Term 2 (Spring Semester) - 5 November 2026

Email your Study Abroad Application Form to globalmobility@winchester.ac.uk along with your:

• Academic Transcript
• Personal Statement (300-500 words) 
• Academic Reference or Referee details

Students undertaking the full academic year study or work placement will also need to complete the CAS application form (Student Route Visa Students).

Applying for Housing
Term or academic-year contracts are available. Please contact housing@winchester.ac.uk and ask for the Study Abroad Housing Form. 

Checklist for incoming students

Have you...

• Got a passport valid for the duration of your stay
• Secured a Visa (if required)
• Secured Electronic Travel Authorisation (if required)
• Applied for accommodation
• Notified us of any support needs
• Arranged insurance
• Checked payment information
• Completed online registration (step one of enrolment)

Documents to bring with you:

• University Acceptance letter
• Accommodation contract/ confirmation email
• Proof of funds (e.g. bank statement or sponsorship letter)
• Passport
• Proof of entry date into the UK (this can be an e-ticket or boarding pass)
