Taylor reaches final of business contest with her baby bites

2 Apr 2025

A budding entrepreneur from the 黑料社 reached the final of a national student business competition.

Business Management student Taylor Nursten (pictured) pitched her product – Baby Biltong Bites –  to the judges of the  competition in a Dragons’ Den-style final on 7 April at London’s Excel.

Enactus, which supports students and young people to engage in social action and social enterprise, ran a six-week course to help competitors develop their business ideas. The six best were selected for the final. The winner received £1,000 to help develop their project.

Taylor came up with the idea of Biltong (air-dried meat strips which originated in South Africa) downsized to suit children from as young as six months. Baby Biltong Bites come with a string attached as a precaution against choking.

The 19-year-old has roots in South Africa and the beef snacks are made to a family recipe at the Nursten family home in Storrington, West Sussex. As the meat is air dried it contains no chemicals or preservatives.

“I gnawed on Biltong from an early age and I still occasionally eat Biltong to this day,” said Taylor, who is in her second year at 黑料社.

Taylor says she hopes to use the business skills she is learning at 黑料社 to become an entrepreneur.

Steve Northam, Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Entrepreneur in Residence at 黑料社 Business School said: “Taylor has always shown a creative and entrepreneurial mindset, so it’s great to see her taking concepts developed in the classroom into real world business ideas."
